About Dr Ravin Patel

Hello and thank you for visiting my site, I am Dr Ravin Patel, a specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, here is a little bit about my background.

Cape Town is home, having grown up here for most of my life, aside from a few years spent in New Zealand. After completing my schooling between the two countries, I chose to study medicine at the University of Cape Town, where I obtained my undergraduate degree.

During my training, I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed helping people feel better — not just physically, but psychologically and emotionally. I also found that my love for creativity and precision was fulfilled by the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and it was quite early on that I knew this was the field for me.

After graduating, I completed my mandated internship and community service years, spending time in Kimberley where I had the opportunity to work for a year in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department. From there, I returned to Cape Town and spent three years as a registrar specialising in general surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital through the University of Cape Town, followed by five years specialising in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tygerberg Hospital through Stellenbosch University.

In plastic and reconstructive surgery, we are in a unique position — we have the skills, training, and knowledge to operate across most areas of the body with a wide variety of tissues. We also have the privilege of helping patients regain a part of themselves that they may have lost or feel is missing.

Ultimately, my goal is to understand each patient, to learn from them, and to translate their desires into outcomes that truly make a difference in their lives and wellbeing.
