Keloids are overgrown scars that extend beyond the original wound and can be itchy, painful or cosmetically distressing, particularly on the ears, chest, shoulders and upper back. Treatment is typically multimodal and may include intralesional steroid injections, silicone gel or sheeting, pressure therapy, cryotherapy, laser, surgical excision and adjuvant radiotherapy. Because keloids tend to recur after surgery alone, combination treatment significantly reduces recurrence rates.
