Hand Surgery

    Trigger Finger Release

Trigger finger is caused by inflammation and thickening of the flexor tendon sheath (at what is called the A1 pulley - at the base of the finger), causing the finger to catch, snap or lock when bending. Release surgery, performed under local anaesthetic through a small incision in the palm, divides the A1 pulley and allows the tendon to glide freely again. Many trigger fingers also respond to splinting or a single steroid injection before surgery becomes necessary.
