Syndactyly is a common congenital condition in which two or more fingers are joined by skin, soft tissues or bone. Surgical separation, usually performed at 12–18 months of age, uses zigzag incisions to create a web space (space between the fingers) and small full-thickness skin grafts (often from the groin) to resurface areas of insufficient skin. Most children achieve excellent function and appearance with normal hand use in everyday activities.

Plaster cast or splint for 3–4 weeks; hand therapy and scar management thereafter; skin graft donor site heals simultaneously.
