Abdominoplasty removes loose skin and excess fat from the lower and/or upper abdomen and repairs stretched or separated rectus muscles (diastasis recti) - often as a result of pregnancy, creating a flatter, firmer midsection. A low horizontal scar is hidden inside the underwear or bikini line, and the belly button is usually repositioned. Variations include mini, full, extended and circumferential tummy tucks tailored to the amount of skin excess and whether the patient has experienced major weight loss.
Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes localised pockets of stubborn fat from almost any area of the body using specialised cannulas. There are a variety of modern techniques which are chosen according to the tissue characteristics and desired result. It is not a weight-loss treatment but a sculpting technique best suited to patients close to their stable goal weight with reasonable skin elasticity.
A Brazilian Butt Lift enhances the shape and projection of the buttocks by transferring the patient's own fat — harvested by liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, flanks and back — and injecting it in small aliquots into the subcutaneous layer of the buttocks. The procedure improves both buttock shape and waist contour through simultaneous liposuction of the surrounding areas and body contouring. Contemporary safety protocols strictly limit fat injection to the subcutaneous plane to avoid the historically reported risk of fat embolism.
Post-weight-loss body contouring is a staged series of operations that remove hanging skin and residual fat from the abdomen, back, thighs, arms, breasts and buttocks following significant weight loss from bariatric surgery, pregnancy, wieghtloss medications or lifestyle change. Procedures commonly include circumferential body lift, thigh lift, brachioplasty (arm lift), breast lift and upper back lift, typically spaced 3–6 months apart. It requires stable weight, optimised nutrition and realistic expectations about long scars in exchange for dramatic contour improvement.
Brachioplasty removes loose, hanging skin from the upper arms — often a consequence of ageing, weight loss or genetics — to produce a firmer, more toned contour. A scar runs along the inner arm from the elbow to the armpit, positioned to be as inconspicuous as possible with the arms down. Liposuction is often added or used alone in patients with good skin elasticity and predominantly fat excess.
A thigh lift tightens loose skin and reduces fat on the inner or outer thighs, improving contour and reducing chafing. A medial or horizontal thigh lift uses a scar hidden in the groin crease for mild laxity, while a vertical thigh lift adds a scar along the inner thigh for more significant skin excess, typically after major weight loss. Liposuction may be used alone or combined with excision depending on the amount of skin laxity.
A lower body lift, or belt lipectomy, is a circumferential procedure that addresses the abdomen, flanks, hips, outer thighs and buttocks in a single operation. It is most commonly performed after massive weight loss to remove hanging skin from the entire lower torso - 360°. The scar runs around the waist, positioned within low-rise underwear or a bikini at the front and along the upper buttock at the back.
Buttock augmentation with implants uses solid silicone-elastomer implants placed through a hidden incision in the natal cleft, either within or beneath the gluteal muscle, to create larger and more projected buttocks. It is ideal for slim patients without adequate donor fat for a Brazilian butt lift, or for those seeking greater, more predictable volume improvements. Implants can be combined with fat transfer ('composite gluteoplasty') for the most natural contour.
Calf augmentation enhances the shape and size of the lower leg using silicone calf implants placed through a small incision behind the knee, or through fat transfer. It is used cosmetically for patients with very slim calves that do not respond to exercise and reconstructively after muscle wasting, from various causes. Implants provide permanent, predictable volume, while fat grafting gives a softer, more natural contour with some resorption.
A mommy makeover is a personalised combination of procedures that addresses the physical changes resulting from pregnancy and breastfeeding, most commonly combining a tummy tuck, breast lift or augmentation and liposuction in one operation. The exact combination is tailored to the patient's anatomy and goals and typically follows completion of the family and stable weight. Combining procedures is safe in well-selected patients, reduces total recovery time and provides a comprehensive restoration of pre-pregnancy body shape and contour.
Labiaplasty reshapes the labia minora (and sometimes the labia majora or clitoral hood) to reduce size, asymmetry or protrusion that may cause discomfort with exercise, intercourse or clothing, or that is cosmetically distressing. The two main surgical techniques are the trim (edge) technique, which removes the outer edge, and the wedge technique, which preserves the natural edge by removing a V-shaped segment (or variations). It is performed under local or general anaesthetic as a day case with a rapid return to most activities.
