Labiaplasty reshapes the labia minora (and sometimes the labia majora or clitoral hood) to reduce size, asymmetry or protrusion that may cause discomfort with exercise, intercourse or clothing, or that is cosmetically distressing. The two main surgical techniques are the trim (edge) technique, which removes the outer edge, and the wedge technique, which preserves the natural edge by removing a V-shaped segment (or variations). It is performed under local or general anaesthetic as a day case with a rapid return to most activities.
